The second issue, with the addition of the ‘ix’ page numbering has the identical dustwrapper to this far more desirable first issue which has become exceptionally scarce, especially in this condition.Ī first edition, first issue published by Methuen 1924 with page numbering ‘ix’ omitted. A very near fine copy in good dustwrapper. The dustwrapper is worn to the edges, with a closed split to the rear hinge of the spine, the usual darkening to the spine which also has a small amount of loss and a minor tape repair to the rear. Binding very nice and tight, bright and clean with only very minor rubbing to the head and tail of the spine and a very minor crack to the endpaper on the rear hinge with minor browning to the blank endpapers as usual. Published in London on 6th November 1924, the first printing sold out in one day and included Shepard’s first depiction of what would become Winnie the Pooh in the poem ‘Teddy Bear’ alongside the entrance of Christopher Robin in the poem ‘Buckingham Palace’.
